Looking for a quiet smaller intimate gathering where you can easily socialize and relax as midnight approaches, or do you want the loud heart-thumping energy of a huge party with hundreds of people and non-stop dancing? Connecticut offers you these options, whether it be at a restaurant, night club, bar, casino (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun), lounge, hotel, country club, or banquet facility.
Over the years, I have looked into the different kinds of New Years Eve parties we could have just so that it wasn’t always the same old same old. I thought about having a movie night or something like that for a while, but I figured we could have one of those any time. New Years events are for really cutting loose and having a great time. A New Years Eve party should be a little wild. Otherwise, it’s just a party. One year I decided to go all out. We found a public beach, staked out a secluded spot, and unpacked all our New Year supplies. It was cold, given this was the Connecticut coastline with the waters of Long Island Sound pushing waves on shore. I think we were in Westport, but it could have been anywhere from Stonington to New Haven to Milford to Greenwich.
For something more traditional, consider a First Night celebration like the big one they have in Hartford, CT. It really recognizes that New Year’s Eve is a time for renewal and new beginnings. It’s an awesome opportunity for the community to look ahead collectively with hope and optimism and appreciate its common bonds. The name “First Night” symbolizes this forward look, even though December 31 is actually the “last night”, or “final night” of the year.
Either way, do some hunting and you are sure to find the perfect New Year’s Eve celebration in CT that suits you perfectly!
