December 3, 2011 How to develop a website for consistency
Ever hear how people say, “He may be mean, but at least he’s consistent”? Of course, they exaggerate; what they’re trying to say though is that consistency is a virtue all by itself. And it’s a virtue you need to adopt when it comes to learning how to develop a website.
Ever been to a website that on one page was all about putting advertising all of the top, and that chose to put the advertising all in the middle on another page? It’s known to happen. You never know where exactly to look for the videos, links to other pages, information about the author and so on. Take a very popular website like MSN Money, for instance.
On some articles, you can tell exactly when it was written, because right below the title, they include a short note about itn. On other articles, it’s just not there. Some websites go even farther. They’ll make some pages really wide-screened – going from edge to edge on a widescreen monitor, and they’ll change their mind on others and write everything in a narrow column in the middle. Sometimes, when they wish to give you a link, they’ll just write out the whole URL. At other times, they’ll just give you a hyperlink inserted conveniently into a word.
Basically, if you wish to learn how to develop a website, you need to learn how to not to do this and to be consistent.
